Evergreen.png ATTENTION In the rounds without the Patriarch, players are accustomed to the fact that there is no instance that wants to judge and reconcile them and they often resolve their matters with violence and lynching. If you want to keep your status, you will have to draw attention to yourself from the very beginning and inform the commoners that the Law will take care of them.

Patriarch is a social role. Unlike the weak and ineffective Judge of Ravenhearts past, the Patriarch is the respected head of the fortress's largest family. His status is afforded to him by the Baron because he has proven himself to be an effective mediator.

While the Baron is busy having the time of his life and escaping from the conspirators, he has no time to deal with thefts, debts, harassments, insults and other conflicts. And although his word is valued more than yours, he is only interested in high-profile cases that would end up in baronial executions.

  • You have no access to the Garrison channel. Speak with the Censor early on to establish your presence. This will ensure lowlifes and scoundrels make their way to the dungeons instead of a puddle in a dark alley.
  • There is no place for you in battles, while you were a force to reckon with in years past, you survived those times by being smarter than others, it would be wise to counsel with words and the status your large family brings to negotiate the violence.
  • The Baron recently acquired a defunct robot, the CTR Greta-07. Speak with the Meister to see if he will allow it to be loaned to you. You would have to find a brain, a power cell and Meister's help to get it back in action. Greta is capable of unscrewing grilles, spraying blinding gas and handcuffing the criminals.

Justice

  • The holy remains of the last cat on Evergreen will help you issue a fair decision. Make sure that she is always close to you.
  • Lock the criminal in the cage.
  • Whisper with them: perhaps, they have a worthy bribe prepared for you.
  • Whisper with the victim: perhaps, they have a bribe that would outweigh the first one.
  • Gather witnesses, prosecution and defense representatives.
  • Listen to every position and get acquainted to the evidences.
  • Check with the Northern Law.
  • Consult with Themis in one of the different ways: roll a dice, toss a coin or consult with the homeless that lives in the Court hall ("Is the culprit guilty or not?").
  • Sit on the Judicial Throne.
  • Click the "Verdict" button on the Throne tab.
  • Enter your verdict.
  • Struck the gavel!

Law of the North

Written by Duke Lerius Carbuno, ruler and protector of the North, the suzerain of Ravenheart's Baron, the Law of the North regards only the most frequent domestic misconducts. Since the Duke himself is no longer present on the planet, the laws are considered as recommendations and a list of traditional punishments. Issuing the verdict is left to the conscience of the Judge.

TRANSITION OF POWER

The transition of power occurs in the event of the death of the lord. Anathema also breaks his reign. Power is transferred from the lord to his own senior son.

If there are no pretenders, it goes then to:

  • The closest legitimate male relative.
  • The closest legitimate female relative.
  • The closest non-legitimate relative, if the Church allows it.

Until the heir to the throne has reached a mature age, a Regent, which is the closest mature relative, has to rule. In the absence of Regent, they are replaced with the Hand.

DUEL

The insulted party decides if the duel is limited by first blood or is it until death. The challenged party has the right to nominate a volunteering defender instead of them. They also choose the weapon. The duel is conducted without armor and special means of protection.

LEGITIMIZATION OF BASTARD

Legitimizing a bastard is only allowed if the local head of the Church consents. Otherwise, both the father and the child lose their titles.

ANATHEMA

Anathema exempts anyone - Nobles, lowborn, or even a Lord - from the protection of the Northern Law. Anyone can do anything to an excommunicated person, and no one has a right to stop them.

THE GREAT HUNT

Just like Anathema, The Great Hunt outlaws the criminal, but it can not be declared on the members of the Church. The lords resort to The Great Hunt only in extreme cases, when the criminal's deeds are vile enough and punishable by death.

ADDITIONS

  • If it is impossible for the guilty side to pay the fine or its part, the punishment may be replaced with lashing for every 5 obols.
  • Murder during an official duel is not to be punished.
  • The infliction of non-lethal injuries to a criminal at their resistance is not punished.
  • If the guilt of the accused party is not proved, and the charges are severe, but based only on a testimony, the accused party may call for a duel with the applicant. By the virtue of the God's interference, the duel's outcome will define justice.
  • A member of the Church is to be considered a noble if it is not elaborated on in a specific case.
  • Execution of a Clergyman is always replaced with imprisonment until pardon, or an exile from the Fortress, if they're not excommunicated.
  • Controversial situations from the Law's point of view are to be dealt by the Patriarch.
  • Pardoning is the prerogative of the Lord, in his absence it may be granted by the prior of the Сhurch.
